Newest family member!

"Our people came across the water
     with their fearful, untamed hearts,
Standing on a foreign shoreline
praying for a brand new start,
Hand in hand across the mountains
     and the ragin' rivers wide
'Til they reached the distant ocean
or found a place where love abides."
-- from "Love Abides" by Tom Russell

Luxembourger, German and Austro-Hungarian are we...

My "great-eight" family lines (the lines of my eight great-grandparents) are listed at the left. Just click one to see what is there. I have gathered a fair amount of information for many of these lines; nonetheless, I'm interested in knowing more. Please contact me at the above email address if you have corrections or additions... or if you just want to say "Hi."

In addition to the family tree data there is also a page presenting the "civil record of birth" documents for both my great grandfather, Henry Steichen, and his father, Johann Steichen. One certificate is in German, the other in French; translations are given.

The data reported here is only part of what I have... so if you think you are related somehow, I might have the data that shows it... just drop me a note.

"So it's rise up all you ancestors and dance upon your graves;
I've come to hear your voices, now, so maybe I'll be saved.
Cursed are we who forget the past but pray and don't despair.
My song might haunt your dreams tonight; I'm the man from God knows where."
-- from "The Man from God Knows Where" by Tom Russell

Below is a four-generation ancestor chart showing relationships among my family lines. In addition, a larger, textual ancestral report, with up to twelve generations is also available by clicking on the chart below.

No genealogical research is truly performed independently; my thanks to the helpful family members and the many known and unknown researchers from whom I've drawn continued encouragement and gathered bits and pieces, both large and small.
