The image below on the right is a thumbnail of the civil record of birth for my great-great-grandfather, Johann Steichen, Henry's father (click it to enlarge).   He was born in Kehlen, Luxembourg in 1809 to Georg and Susanne (Dondlinger) Steichen.

Johann Moës Bürgermeister Beamten des Civilstandes
der Gemeinde Kehlen, im Kanton Capellen, Großher-
zogthum Luxemburg, erschienen Johann Steichen von Kehlen
alt fünfzig Jahre Ackersmann und Vater des Kindes
wohnhaft zu Kehlen, welcher Uns ein Kind männlichen
Geschlechts vorgestellt geboren zu Kehlen gestern um acht Uhr Nachmittags

of the month of January, at two o'clock in the afternoon, before us
Johann Moës, mayor, civil official
of the Municipality of Kehlen in County Capellen, Grand
Duchy of Luxembourg, has appeared Johann Steichen of Kehlen,
age fifty years, a farmer, and father of the child
living in Kehlen, which to us a child of male
sex presented, born in Kehlen yesterday at eight o'clock p.m.,
from him, declarant, and his wife Angelica Roller, twenty
eight years old, no profession,
and for which declared he wants to give the first name Henri.

This declaration and presentation are done in the presence of Nicolas Erpelding,
thirty-eight years old, a field guard, living in Kehlen, and Nicolas Moës,
twenty-one years old, a farmer,
living in Meispelt in this Community, and have down below,
with the declarant, the present document,
after it was read out loud to them, with us undersigned.

The aforementioned statement and presentation made in the presence of Pierre Schanck
of Kehlen, thirty eight years old, occupation of farmer,

occupation of day laborer, domiciled at Kehlen, and have
the father and the witnesses signed with us this birth certificate, after it was
made to them by its reading.
