Moson-Szolnok (Zanegg), Hungary (not in Burgenland)

German name was Zanegg, population now ~10,500, was an ethnic German Catholic town prior to the formation of the Burgenland but remained in Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary.

In April 1946, it was ethnicly cleansed, with Germans deported to Baden and north Württemberg, Germany. The book, "Das War Zanegg: Ein Altes deutsches Bauerndorf auf dem Heideboden in Westungarn," by Johann Neuberger, is a comprehensive work on Zanegg covering its history, with many pictures. It has complete listings of the tax roll censuses of 1546, 1552, 1566, 1670, 1700, 1770 & 1849 and a complete listing of the houses in 1946 with resident names and the town in Germany they were deported to. Another book, "Familienbuch" Zanegg" by Matthias Brasch and Mathias Kohlmann, has genealogies going back to ~1800 of all the families that were living in Zanegg in 1946.

Old tax records (Urbéri tabellák, 1767-1773) are also on FamilySearch film # 1529824.
