NEWSPAPERS IN BURGENLAND (WEEKLY)

- Burgenland has no daily newspaper, only weeklies.
~ Burgenländische Freiheit (BF) - owned by the Socialist Party (SPÖ) of Burgenland, comparable to the U.S. Democratic Party; largest circulation
~ bvz (Burgenlaendische Volkszeitung) - Main section is supplemented by district editions for Neusiedl, Eisenstadt, Mattersburg, Oberpullendorf, Oberwart and Güssing & Jennersdorf (combined). One can access the district news via the map provided. The bvz is owned by a Lower Austrian publishing house which has bought both the former Oberwarter Zeitung (OZ) and the bvz (the weekly paper of Burgenland's Conservative Party). The two papers were merged.
~ Hrvatske Novine - published by the Hrvatsko Stamparsko Drustvo (Croatian Press Society); homepage features some articles in both Croatian and German; circulation: 3400

Austrian Map Online - online access to detailed official Austrian maps (scales of 1:50.000, 1:200.00 or 1:500.000). For best results, use high-speed connection and screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768; click on "START", enter village name under "Geographischer Name" (you can additionally select the Bundesland (province) from the "Suche in" menu), then press the enter-key. Possible targets are shown under "Suchergebnisse". Double click on the village name you think is the right one - details (exact geographic location) will be shown in a pop-up window; click on "Fenster schließen" (close window) or "Karte zeigen" (show map).
