Wallern, Valla in the History of Its Houses
by Father Josef Graisy

Wallern in Year 1767

From page 1 to 120, I have represented the houses of No. 1 - 109, to which I have used the old numbers that had been introduced in 1852. These numbers were in use until the introduction of the road and alleys names in year 1930.

In 1767, there were no house numbers. But there were already house numbers before 1852. Pastor Reinprecht reported in the parish chronicle: "On 22 March 1785 has begun in Wallern, numbering houses and people. On 9 March 1790, however, has stopped doing it again."

From the Urbarial list from the year 1767 you can however see that, even without house numbers, at that time stood houses:

1. In the Hauptstraße   : on the north side from No. 1 - 69,
on the south side from No. 4 - 60,
2. In the Kirchengaase : from No. 1 - 16,
3. In the Wassergasse : from No. 1 - 8,
4. In the Bahnstraße    : from No. 1 - 3.
5. At the place where the parsonage and the school are now, were two houses in east-west direction in 1767. The more northerly was set up as a parsonage in 1734, with construction of the parish, and stood until the year 1854. In the southern house, Söllner lived.

Besides these houses were in 1767 already:

6. The house with the old number 112. The house was in the Bahnstraße and now stands as the two houses with numbers 9 and 11. This was the oldest house ever. It is already mentioned in 1569, in the reign of Forchtenstein, where the cattle of the rule wintered.

7. In the Salidergasse were 3 houses: 2 belonged to the Saliter operation, one was the home for the cattle-keepers.

8. In 1767, in addition, already stood the church.

We are well-informed by the parish chronicle of the church. In two places, Pastor Anton Nemethy reported that the church was built in 1730. Others have claimed that it had been built in 1732. That is not true.

The Judge in 1730 was a Georg Graisy. And this Graisy was my personal interest also, which you may understand. I can say with certainty that he was born in 1687 and died in 1751. He was owner of the house 77 = Parish Office. He was the brother of Matthias Graisy, who is the ancestor of the surviving Graisy.

Not yet built in 1767 was the house with the old number 78. That later was the school. Now it is the doctor's apartment.

In 1767, the school was the house with the old number 98. This is now the house in the Wassergasse with the number 8, but was probably originally a Söllner-house that had been made into the school, because Pastor Nemethy reports that there was no school building in his time. Instruction was given in the Inn. That was the house 112. Pastor Nemethy died in 1758 in Wallern.
