Hilda Dreisbach


Hilda Dreisbach, 83, of Northampton, PA, died Saturday, December 17 in Whitehall Manor.

She was the wife of the late Herman A. Dreisbach, who died April 15, 2011.

Born November 3, 1928 in Kroatisch-Ehrensdorf, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Palkovits) Csencsits.

Hilda worked in housekeeping at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown for 10 years. She previously worked in the Garment Industry and was a homemaker. Hilda was a member of Queenship of Mary Church and the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post # 454, Ladies Auxiliary. Hilda was a volunteer for many community organizations including the church and school cafeteria.

Survivors: daughters, Susan Dreisbach, of Northampton, Stephanie Wisdo, of Philadelphia, sons, Daniel and wife Joanne, of Mifflinville, David and wife Kim, of Northampton, Michael and wife Norene, of Forest Inn and Matthew and wife Darlene, of Dumont, New Jersey, six grandchildren, Andrew, Keri - Ann, Kelli - Ann, Nicole, Matthew and Brenda. Hilda was predeceased by a brother, Frank L. Csencsits.

Services: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Queenship of Mary Church 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home 326 E. 21st ST. Northampton. Burial will follow in the Our Lady of Hungary Parish Cemetery.

Pauline Billisitz


Pauline Billisitz, née Miholich, 97, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011.

She was born in Grosswarasdorf, Austria, and was married to the late Stephen Billisitz.

Surviving are daughters Elsie Billisitz & Nancy (Robert) Cretsinger, son Steve (Lorraine) Billisitz, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 pm Monday in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10:45-11:45 am Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home.

Edward Klepeis


Edward Klepeis, 89, a resident of the Culinarian's Home and former long time resident of Maple Hill, Rosendale, New York, died Monday Dec. 12, 2011 at the Kingston Hospital.

He was born in Glasing, Burgenland, Austria on July 17, 1922, a son of the late Edward and Rose (Stranzl) Klepeis.

Mr. Klepeis was a 57 year member of Local 17 Laborers Union in Newburgh where he was a foreman until his retirement in 1986.

He loved the outdoors and the Catskill Mountains. Growing up he worked on the family dairy farm in the LeFever Falls area of Rosendale.

His wife, Hilda (Kerbacher) Klepeis died in 1997.

He is survived by two daughters, Marianne Mangan of Maple Hill, Kathryn Layton of El Sobrane, Calif., three sons, Martin of Breman, Maine, Steven of New Orleans, La., and Edward Klepeis of Wallkill, a sister, Dorothy Miller formerly of Kingston, now residing at the Culinarian's Home in New Paltz, Also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Walter and Frank Klepeis died previously.

The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. at St. Peters Church, Rosendale. Rev. Andrew Florez will officiate. Cremation will be at Wiltwyck Cemetery and final inurnment will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Rosendale. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday 4 to 7 p.m.

Marie Ann Cole


Mrs. Marie Ann Artinger Cole, 89, of Frederick, Maryland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the loving wife of William R. "Robby" Cole, Sr. They were married in November of 1947 and had just celebrated 64 years together.

Marie was born on November 27, 1922 in Kemeten, Burgenland, Austria, and was a daughter of the late Karl and Elizabeth (Schuller) Artinger.

At the age of seven she arrived at Ellis Island to join her family living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She was a homemaker for most of her life and her greatest calling in life was caring for her family. She loved celebrating birthdays, picnics, family gatherings, and she and her husband enjoyed traveling. At one time she was an avid bowler. Her kindness and dedication to family, friends and strangers was a testament to whom she was. She made the world a better place and will be greatly missed by all.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Bill Cole and wife Patty, Diane Cole, Paul Cole and David Cole and wife Gwyn, 10 grandchildren, Jared Cole and wife Megan, Todd Cole, Paul Cole, Jr., Bradley Cole, Justin Cole, Maria Cole, Benjamin Cole, Jessica Cole, Sarah Cole and Matthew Cole, and one great granddaughter, Emily, one sister, Betty Langman and one brother, Walter Artinger and wife Elaine.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Cole and a sister, Margie Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 15, 2011, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Rev. John L. Manley, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Frieda Neubauer


Frieda Neubauer, of North Catasauqua, PA, passed away on December 6 at the age of 91.

She was born in Rábafüzes/Raabfidisch, Hungary to the late Anton and Theresia (Jost) Zwetolitsch and was married to the late Edward Neubauer.

Frieda had worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in janitorial services, until retiring in 1985. She had been a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and a member of the Austrian-Hungarian Veterans Society, both in Allentown.

Survivors: Daughter Hilda and husband William Fonzone of Whitehall; two grandchildren, Bill and wife Kerrie Ann Fonzone and Dina Fonzone; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Olivia, and Rocco.

Services: A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday December 9 to be followed by a service at 11 a.m. both at Weber Funeral Home, 502 Ridge Ave., Allentown. www.weberfuneralhomes.com

Helen Toth


Helen J. Toth, age 87, of Vineland, New Jersey, passed away on Friday afternoon at home where she had been under the care of family and hospice.

She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Agnes (Stolsitz) Garger.

Helen was born in Northampton, PA and after being raised in Szentpéterfa (aka Petrovo Selo/Prostrum), Hungary she returned to the Bronx, NY until moving to Vineland in 1960.

She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, John B. Toth, who died in 1991.

In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Stephen Garger, Brother in-law Anthony Darmiento and Sister in-law Margaret (Toth) and John Vargo.

In her early years Helen worked first at J.J. Newberry cafeteria before going to work at Arian Fashions. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose College of Regents and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a member of the St. Isidore's Roman Catholic Church, Vineland. Helen enjoyed going to the Olive Garden, visiting Atlantic City and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter; Patricia Toth and her fiancee Willis Boone. Her grandcat Bentson, Sister Maryanna Darmiento, Milton, NY, Nieces; Phyllis (Herb) Lorenz, Milton, NY, MaryAnn (Fred) Roberts, Ossining, NY, Nephews; John Darmiento, Marlboro, NY, George (Kay) Vargo, Webster, NY, Several grand nieces and nephews and special cousins in Vineland, Haddonfield and Brooklyn, NY.

Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland, NJ. Her funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Wednesday in St. Isidore's R.C. Church, 1655 Magnolia Rd., Vineland, NJ with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland, NJ.

Katherine Conner


Katharine Ilona "Lonnie" Conner, née Satovich, 90, of Belleville, Illinois, born Nov. 19, 1920, in Langental, Burgenland, Austria, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center, Swansea. Mrs. Conner was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, the Shriners Past Potentates Wives Club, and the YMCA. She was affectionately known as "Baba" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Francis Dale Conner, whom she married on April 26, 1947, and who died April 4, 1999; her parents, Thomas and Maria, née Bauer, Satovich; three brothers; and two sisters.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Joy Conner of San Antonio, Texas; two granddaughters, Michelle (Michael) Merwarth and Nicole (Marc) Leifeste; and five great-grandchildren, Maren, Aidan, Devon, Conner, and Raelynn.

The most valuable gift that Lonnie imparted to others was unconditional love. She was always compassionate and nurturing, and she saw the good in everyone. Lonnie was there for everyone who needed her. She was there to care for them, offer a listening ear, or share sound advice from her amazing heart. Her greatest joys were watching her son, grandchildren, and above all, her great-grandchildren, grow into the individuals they were meant to be. We were fortunate to have been there to comfort and care for her in her last days, as she so often did for us during our lives.

Josephine Charamut


Josephine (Niedermayer) Charamut, 90, widow of Joseph Charamut since 1986, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.

Josephine was born in Wallendorf, Burgenland, Austria on August 28, 1921, to the late Joseph and Mary (Lang) Niedermayer. After moving to America with her family at the age of seven, she became a life-long resident of New Britain. At the time of her death, Josephine resided at St. Lucian's Residence on Burritt Street. She was a graduate of New Britain High School and retired from the former North & Judd Mfg. Co. of New Britain, after many years of service.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Frank and Grace (Nesta) Niedermayer of Plantsville, formerly of East Berlin. Josephine also leaves two nieces and their spouses; Frances and Arthur Boyle of Newington, Nancy and Louis Urso of Southington, a nephew, Joseph Niedermayer and his companion, Rhonda Cassin of Bristol, and a cousin Englebert Niedermayer of San Bruno CA. She is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews. Josephine was predeceased by a third niece, Maryann (Niedermayer) Schafer and her spouse, Lincoln, and her step-father, Michael Ertl.

Visitation services will be Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:30am at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Lester Mogdics


Lester Mogdics, age 83, of Ravenna, Michigan, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Great Lakes Specialty Hospital Hackley Campus.

Lester was born on November 4, 1927 in Schandorf, Burgenland, Austria to the late John and Anna (Muhr) Mogdics.

He married Rosemary (Petti) Mogdics on July 3, 1954 in Chicago, IL.

Lester worked at the S.D. Warren Paper Mill for 42 years until his retirement in 1990.

Lester is survived by 1 son, Michael Mogdics of Ravenna; 3 grandchildren, Josh (Angie) Ryan of Grand Rapids, Jessica Mogdics and Kevin Mogdics both of Ravenna; 2 great grandchildren, Joshua Ryan Jr. and Ava Ryan; 1 brother, John (Anna) Mogdics of Muskegon and several nieces and nephews; several cousins in Schandorf, Austria also survive.

Funeral Services for Lester Mogdics will be conducted on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Ravenna with Father Fred Brucker celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery. Carl Wagner


Carl Anthony Wagner, 89 of Vacaville, California, passed on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville.

He was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Gaas, Burgenland, Austria, the son of the late Rudolph and Katherine (Preissler) Wagner.

Mr. Wagner was retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 15 years. A career military person and a World War II veteran, he served 30 years in the United States Air Force, 45th Infantry Division, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and received a U.S. Air Force Commendation. He ranked as a chief master sergeant, and NCOIC Security Police at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield.

Mr. Wagner is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleonora; and two brothers, Louie and Albert of Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maria and Anna; one brother, Alfred; and both parents.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral, which will be held at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W. Texas St., Fairfield, California, on Monday, Oct. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be at Rockville Cemetery, 4219 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield.

Anna Schatz


Anna M. (Reichardt) Schatz, age 102, of Conshohocken, PA, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.

She was born in Güssing, Burgenland, Austria on May 2, 1909, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Mikowits) Reichardt.

Anna was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph Schatz for 54 years.

Anna was born and raised in Austria, coming to the United States in 1936 when she was 27 years old.

She was a licensed driver in Austria at a time when one had to be proficient in engine repair to receive an automobile driver's license. As a cook for the director of a large steam ship line in Austria, Anna held many talents in cooking and baking, which she shared with family and friends. Anna supported her family holding various jobs in domestic service. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in Conshohocken, where she also held the distinction of being its eldest member. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening: her rose bush, which was transplanted from her previous parish in Philadelphia and tended to daily for decades, still produces a beautiful array of roses from April through November. Above all, Anna thoroughly enjoyed being the matriarch of her family.

Anna is survived by a son, Rudolph J. of Conshohocken; a daughter, Anne Hill of Fort Washington; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Frank and 2 sisters, Margaret and Charlotte.

Relatives and friends may pay respects on Monday morning, October 17, from 8:30-10am at the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohocken. A funeral mass will commence in St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 3rd Ave. & Fayette St., Conshohocken. Interment, Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken. Frank Schrey


Frank Schrey, 81, died on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at his home in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Rudersdorf, Burgenland, Austria, he was raised in Brooklyn and Queens, NY prior to settling in Branchburg in 1967.

Frank attended Brooklyn Technical High School and graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He had served his country with the United States Army. Frank worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies in Murray Hill as a research chemist for over forty years, where he was granted a United States Patent for his work with silicon oxides in 1987. He was a passionate ballroom dancer and a member of the Roundtowners Dance Club.

Frank leaves behind his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Ruth Petraitis Schrey with whom he joined hands in marriage on December 28, 1963. He will be deeply missed by his three daughters, Erica Schrey of Branchburg, Caroline Schrey of Glen Gardner and Jennifer Schrey of Branchburg; and two adored grandchildren, Gage and Kara Voorhees.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Friday, September 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, October 1 from 9-9:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1 beginning 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral liturgy at The Catholic Church of St. Ann in Raritan. Stefan Bendekovits


Stefan Bendekovits, 88, of Northampton died peacefully on Wednesday, September 21 in the home of his daughter Emilie and son-in-law George F. Martin Jr., of Roseto.

Stefan and his wife Emilie (Stubits) Bendekovits celebrated 59 years of marriage on February 11.

Born June 4, 1923 in Northampton (and raised in St. Kathrein im Burgenland), he was the son of the late Michael and Rosa (Palkovits) Bendekovits.

Stefan retired from Cross Country Clothes in 1985 after 28 years of employment. He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors: Besides his wife; daughters, Emilie, wife of George F. Martin Jr., of Roseto, Christine Bendekovits, of Life Path in Bethlehem; two grandchildren, Philip Martin his wife Laura, and Kristal Martin; sister, Maria Knopf of Austria; and nieces and nephews. Stefan was predeceased by 2 sisters, Rosa Rohde and Anna Dirnbeck and two brothers, Michael and Joseph Bendekovits.

Services: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 26 at 1 p.m. in Queenship of Mary Church 1324 Newport Ave. Northampton. Family and friends may call Sunday, 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 12 to 12:30 p.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home 326 E. 21st St., Northampton.

Werner Hollendonner


Dr. Werner J. Hollendonner, M.D., 85, of Trenton, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011.

Born in Strem, Burgenland, Austria, he had lived in the Trenton area since age four.

After graduating from Trenton High School, he served in World War II, for which he received the Bronze Star and other medals. Attached to the 86th Infantry Division, he attained the rank of corporal before receiving an honorable discharge in August 1946. Later, after earning degrees from Ursinus College and the University of Jefferson Medical School, he interned at Mercer Hospital and was a medical resident at the Philadelphia VA Hospital. He was on staff at Mercer Medical Center, RWJ Hospital at Hamilton and St. Francis Medical Center. He was the first full-time medical director at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, where he brought in author Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, M.D., to lecture on her pioneering work, "On Death and Dying." He also was chief of the Department of Medicine at Hamilton Hospital, and worked for more than 25 years in the NJ state prison system, as well as five years at Mid-State Correctional Facility at Fort Dix. Dr. Hollendonner maintained a private practice for many years out of his home/office in Hamilton Square, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion Post 39 in Roebling and Post 346 in East Stroudsburg. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Church in Trenton and was a past member of the NJ Medical Society, Mercer County Cancer Society, NJ Diabetes Association, German-American Club, Lawrenceville Rotary Club, the Serra Club and the Donauschwaben Society.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Theresa; step-mothers, Maria and Josephine; brother, the Honorable Judge Anton Hollendonner; sister, Cecilia Owen; step-sister, Erica Gorczynski, and their spouses, and best friend and brother-in-law, Deacon William Kelty.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lee Carol Sargeant Hollendonner; sister, Hermine Kelty; sons and their wives, Ronald and Caroline Sagnip, Steven and Lynn Sagnip, and Jeffrey and Lina Sagnip Hollendonner; daughters and their husbands, Carole and Mark Mischinski, Diana and Andrew Butchko, and Laurel and Andrjez Wilzcek, as well as daughters and their husbands, Amy Hollendonner Smith and Jeff Smith, and Nancy and Dave Turner, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. Gisela Simitz, 92, of Coplay, passed away Friday, August 19 in her residence.

She was married to the late Emil C. Simitz.

Born in Raabfidisch (Rábafüzes), Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Franz and Maria (Kroboth) Schanta.

Gisela was a seamstress for various local garment mills. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Coplay and its choir. She was a member of the Coplay Sängerbund and the Burgenländische Gemeinschaft.

Survivors: Daughters Margaret, wife of Edward Ivankovits, of Coplay, Gisela, wife of Lance Gottwald, of Harrisburg; son, Emil Simitz and his wife, Sally, of Coplay; grandchildren, Mark Ivankovits, Christine Law, Edward Ivankovits, Stefanie Kaintz, Carolyn Simitz; great-grandsons, Andrew, Jacob, John, Nicholas; sister, Margareta Schanta of Whitehall. She was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

John Stangl


John "Hansi" Stangl, 71 years, of Whitehall Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon June 30, 2011 in the Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown, with his loving and dedicated family by his side.

Born in Poppendorf, Burgenland, Austria, he was a son of the late Franz and Julianna (Schlener) Stangl, and husband of Barbara A. (Feiertag) Stangl for 40 years. They married on December 12, 1970.

John was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, Whitehall, and the Golden Agers. He was a life member of the Austrian-Hungarian Veterans Society, and enjoyed his memberships in the Fullerton Fire Co. #1, the Coplay Saengerbund, and the Ukrainian American Citizens Club. The longtime Superintendent of Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemeteries in Whitehall, he was an attendant at the Whitehall Twp. recycling center. He retired from Maier's Bakery after 16 years of service, and earlier in life worked for Bonney Forge.

Survivors: beside his wife; daughters Erika L. Lewis and her husband James of Lwr. Pottsgrove Twp., Michele M. Stangl and her companion Miguel Rivera of Allentown; grandchildren Kyle, Tatyanna, Madison and Ethan; godsons Michael Feiertag and Mark Gasbarre; brother Josef Stangl and his wife Monika of Woodbridge, Canada; sister-in-law Anna Stangl in Austria; nieces and nephews; predeceased by brother Frank Stangl.

Services: His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. John J. Grabish at 10 a.m. Friday July 8, 2011 in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 618 Fullerton Ave, Whitehall. Devoted mother of William (Mary Ann) Dobitsch, and the late Frank Dobitsch, Jr., Anna (William) Hughes and Elizabeth (Robert Hughes). Loving great grandmother of 21 and great, great grandmother of 5.

Sister Rose Lechner


Sister Rose Lechner, formerly known as Sister Deodata, age 103, a Missionary Sister of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, of Sacred Heart Villa, Reading, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011 in the 85th year of her religious life.

Born in Inzenhof, Burgenland, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Wolf) Lechner.

She made her First Profession of Vows on February 3, 1927.

She was engaged in a variety of ministries in the Columbus, Ohio and Allentown Dioceses. For 18 years she worked in the food service at the pontifical Josephinum Seminary in Columbus. She was the cafeteria supervisor at Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown from 1946 to 1971. She then served for five years as the receptionist at the former St. Michael Convent, Reading, now Sacred Heart Villa. In 1976 she returned to the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, where she served in Pastoral Ministry until she retired in 2005.

Survivors: She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother Frank and sisters, Hattie Lechner and Ella Lechner Steltzman.

Services: A Wake service will be held at Sacred Heart Villa on Sunday, June 19 at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Sacred Heart Villa. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.

John Fandl


John S. "Sam" Fandl, 92, of Northampton died Monday, May 30, 2011, in Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg Bethlehem surrounded by his loving family.

Sam and his wife Susanna Sue (Seier) Fandl would have been married 68 years on September 9th.

Born December 16, 1918 in Szentpéterfa, Hungary (aka Petrovo Selo/Prostrum), Sam was the son of the late John and Rose (Yurasits) Fandl.

He was a carpenter all of his life and was a very proud member of the Lehigh Valley Carpenters Union # 600 of Bethlehem. Sam also worked at the Hess's Department Store for 10 years. He honorably served his country in the United States Army Medical Corp during WW II. Sam was a life member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #454 in Northampton and was a member of the dart league and he was very active with the Minstrels. He was a life member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Sick and Beneficial Society, Northampton. He was a member of Queenship of Mary church, Northampton. Sam was an avid tennis player and played until he was 85 years of age.

Survivors: wife Sue; forever loving family member, Bryan Beal, of Northampton; beloved niece, Christine Orowitz, of Kentucky; sister in laws, Catherine Tausz, of Bethlehem, and Helen Klucharich, of Coplay, many more loving nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by a sister, Mary Keschel.

Services: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 3rd at 10:30 a.m. in the Queenship of Mary Church 1324 Newport Ave. Northampton. Anton Spitzer


Anton "Tony" Spitzer, 94, of Northampton died Saturday. April 23 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Garger) Spitzer.

Born February 27, 1917 in Deutsch Ehrensdorf, Burgenland, Austria, he was the son of the late Stephen and Anna (Mattes) Spitzer.

Tony was the oldest living member of the Northampton Liederkranz. He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church, Northampton. He worked as a carpenter for the Louis S. Tepes Sr. Construction Company. He served six years with the German Army before coming to the United States.

Survivors: Daughters, Paula, wife of Marvin Schleicher, of Northampton, Christine, wife of Charles Norcross, of Northampton, Helena Spitzer, of Saucon Valley; four grandchildren, Anthony, Michelle, Stacey and Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jared, Jeremy, Hannah, Taylor, Michael and Joshua, one great-great-grandson, Ezekiel.

August Goldschmidt


August "Gus" Goldschmidt, 91, of Allentown, passed away April 8, 2011 in St. Lukes Hospice, Bethlehem. He was the loving husband for 62 years to the late Arlene (Siegfried) Goldsschmidt.

Born in Zahling, Burgenland, Austria on July 9, 1919, August was the son of the late Andrew and Rose (Kurz) Goldschmidt. He was one of 5 siblings.

An avid saxophone player, Gus started a five-piece orchestra in the late 1930s, and entertained at various clubs in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was a Quartermaster in the U.S. Army during WW II and was also a member of the Army band. Gus was an employee of Bethlehem Steel Corporation for over 30 years where he worked as a machinist and also in sales at Anchor Supply of Allentown. His favorite past-times included working around the house, fixing cars, gardening and spending time with his lovely wife and family. He was a long-standing member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and the oldest member of the Austrian-Hungarian Veterans Society in Allentown. His bright smile and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors: Children, Josephine A. Siefert and her husband Karl of Philadelphia, Mary Rose Smith and her husband Donald of Bethlehem, Anita M. Miller and her husband Charles of Worcester, Andrew J. Goldsmith and his wife Deborah of Allentown, Christina M. Dormans and her husband Joseph of Danielsville and Lisa M Poslock, wife of the late Richard Poslock of Reading. 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Annette, twin sister of Anita.

William R. Schroettner, 70, of Bethlehem, died March 17, 2011 in his home.

Born in Rábafüzes (Raabfidisch), Hungary, he was a son of the late John and Johanna (Gerger) Schroettner.

He was employed as a carpenter for the Carpenters Union, Local 600.

Mary Scheffler


Mary Scheffler, 100, of Northampton passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 9, at the Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton.

She was the wife of the late Arthur B. Scheffler who passed away in 1981.

Mary was born May 24, 1910 in Northampton but raised in Moschendorf, Burgenland, Austria from six months of age and returned to Northampton at 12 years of age. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Groller) Reinisch.

Mary was a waitress and worked for Homemaker Services for many years. She was a member of Queenship of Mary Church in Northampton and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Mary was an inspiration and a blessing to everyone that knew her.

Survivors: Daughter, Ann M., wife of Robert Sinkovits, of Whitehall; sons, George Scheffler and his wife Carol, of Easton, James Scheffler, of Northampton, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandson. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Lillian Borda Watson; brothers, Frank and John Reinisch; sisters, Estelle Reinisch, Pauline Bauer and one great-granddaughter.

Stella M. Beehrle, 90, of Whitehall, passed away February 3, 2011, at Whitehall Manor. Born in Henndorf, Burgenland, Austria, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Stengl) Gumhold.

She was the wife of the late Herman J. Beehrle for 65 years until his death on September 25, 2005.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Allentown. She was a presser for Penn State Mills for 30 years and then went to work for Climax Manufacturing where she retired.

Karl Reichstadter


Karl Reichstadter, 97, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born January 28, 1913 in Rohrbach an der Teich, Burgenland, Austria, he was the son of the late Josef and Josefine Reichstadter and husband of the late Rosa (Bodisch) Reichstadter.

He and his wife were the owners and operators of Reichstadter’s Meat Market for over 25 years before retiring in 1975. Karl was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Palmerton.

Survivors: Daughter, Rita Veronica Hoppes and son, Karl R. Reichstadter, both of Lehighton, PA.

Rosalia Neumüller


Rosalia Neumüller, 96, of Lake Villa, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the Hillcrest Retirement Village in Round Lake Beach. She was the wife of the late Ulrich Neumüller, who died in 1996.

She was born in Rábafüzes/Raabfidisch, Hungary, on Feb. 23, 1914, the daughter of the late Franz and Maria (Kroboth) Schanta and was one of 14 children.

She lived in Lake Villa since 1969, and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church in Ingleside.

She is survived by her children, Gabriella (Frank) Tardin, Ferdinand (Anna), Emil (Cherie) and Johann (Noreen); grandchildren, Frank, Alfred, Ronald, Donna, David, John A., Cynthia, Richard and Robert; and her great-grandchildren, Nicole, Francis, Jason, Sheana, Katelyn, Lindsey, Kyle, Ashley and Matthew; sisters, Gisela Simitz of Coplay, PA, and Margareta Schanta of Whitehall, PA. She was preceded in death by sons Ulrich (the late Marcia) and Frank.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, from at Ringa Funeral Home (www.ringafuneralhome.com), 122 S. Milwaukee Ave. in Lake Villa, processing to St. Bede Catholic Church in Ingleside, for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass, with Rev. John Ryan officiating.
